Biography
'Lena Olin' (qv) born in Sweden, had already made a successful
career as an actress before she came to Hollywood. She acted at the
Royal Theatre in Stockholm directed by 'Ingmar Bergman' (qv). Her
father 'Stig Olin' (qv) was also an actor and played in Bergman's
masterpiece of _Sjunde inseglet, Det (1957)_ (qv) (aka The seventh
Seal). Lena also belongs to the Bergman "family". As a young
actress she played in the great classics of Shakespeare, Ibsen and
Strindberg. She made her international debut as a movie actress in
Efter repetitonen (after the rehearsal) directed by Bergman. In
western Europe she became well known in the political movie
_Unbearable Lightness of Being, The (1988)_ (qv), as Sabina, a
story about the Prague spring (1968). After coming to the USA she
played mostly distinguished, exotic temptresses, intelligent women
and crude vamps. Bergman had developed her artistic gift to play
different human emotions and express them in a subtle way. 'Sydney
Pollack' (qv) director of _Out of Africa (1985)_ (qv) rewrote the
scenario for the movie Havanna especially for Lena. This explains
why this film recalls associations with the classic movie
_Casablanca (1942)_ (qv) starring 'Ingrid Bergman' (qv) also from
Sweden.
