Biography
Kari Samantha Wührer used to sneak into Manhattan at night and sing
with bands as a 14-year-old. Kari had a punk rock band with a bunch
of guys much older than herself called Freudian Slip. Growing up
with two older siblings and a younger brother, Kari always wanted
attention. Wührer is ethnically German with a dash of Cherokee. Her
parents were Karin, a payroll accountant, and Andrew, a police
officer turned car salesman. In 1983, Wuhrer persuaded her mother
to take her to the Ford Talent Agency in Manhattan. She was signed
on the spot, and commercials (for Clairol, among others) and
modeling work followed. In 1988, she was hired as a VeeJay (with
Adam Sandler) for MTV's TV-trivia game show "Remote Control". In
between her acting roles, Kari attended NYU's Drama Department and
studied with the famed actress/teacher Uta Hagen and at the Royal
Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She met her husband Salin, a
rock musician, in 1991 at a mutual friend's party. Salin records
what Wuhrer calls dragster punk music with his band, Ascot, in a
studio in their two-bedroom Hollywood Hills home.
