Biography
Stephanie Zimbalist was born October 8, 1956, in New York, NY, to
actor 'Efrem Zimbalist Jr.' (qv), and his second wife, East Coast
socialite Stephanie Spaulding. Her paternal grandparents are
world-famous violinist Efrem Zimbalist (d. 1985) and opera singer
Alma Gluck (d. 1938). Her half-brother, Efrem Zimbalist III, is a
publishing company executive. Stephanie was raised on her family's
ranch in Encino, CA., but attended Foxcroft High School in
Middleburg, VA. During her senior year of high school, she enrolled
at the Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles to study acting. At the
same time, she studied dance at the Dance Center West in Los
Angeles, as well as took voice lessons. She also studied in the
Drama Department of Juillard. Stephanie has appeared in nearly 40
films, made-for-TV movies and mini-series, but is probably best
known as Private Eye Laura Holt on the popular 1980s detective
drama, _"Remington Steele" (1982)_ (qv), which co-starred 'Pierce
Brosnan' (qv). In the past decade, she has spent most of her
professional time in the theater, starring in such productions as
"My One and Only," "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!", "The Baby
Dance," "Sylvia" and "The Rainmaker," for which she won a Robby
Award for Best Actress in a Drama in February 2001. Stephanie also
does an occasional guest appearance on TV.
